Babycakes Romero is primarily a street photographer dedicated to documenting the world around him. His daily #MYLDN series highlights the chaotic glory that is London, his hometown. A look underneath the city, down inside the tunnels of the London Underground, was the subject of his first exhibition, entitled “Unart”, which documented how decades of torn posters created a series of unintentional works of art. It was a sell out show.
His “Death of Conversation” series, which focussed on the excess of smartphone use in today’s world, went viral around the world and was syndicated across every continent and seen by millions of people. To explain his observations on this modern obsession he was interviewed and featured in a multitude of publications including BBC News, Buzzfeed, Mashable and The Washington Post as well as being featured in a live interview on Sky News and delivered a TED talk on the subject at a TEDx event in Bergamo, Italy in April 2015: https://youtu.be/SKx2lfobPuU
He is also a music gig photographer and amongst others has covered several events for the Despacio soundsystem featuring 2manydjs & James Murphy and was assigned by Massive Attack to photograph their concert at La fete d’humanite in Paris. Most recently he covered M.I.A’s meltdown and the Soulwax tour.
He has also directed and produced over 40 short films, various music videos and an independent feature film.
