DESPACIO – The early Years.

A documentation of the Despacio Sound system from 2012-2016. These photographs were taken at the Manchester International festival, The Roundhouse in Camden (twice), Hammersmith Town Hall, Sonar in Barcelona, All Points East, Coachella and Glastonbury.

These shots were taken from within the speaker stacks as felt the machine’s perspective should be included. It really feels as if Despacio is alive and watching us. A higher lifeform that has beamed itself down to Earth to observe and communicate with us by using joy inducing soundwaves. This is not an ordinary sound system.

This is Close Encounters of the Despacio Kind

I am not an actual member of the crew but they do call me the ‘Ambassio Despacio’ which is mostly an honorary title with some duties which include banging on relentlessly about how incredible it is and informing dancers of the location of the sweet spots. And I am most proud to serve in this role.

I unfortunately do not have photos of all the crew so a big shout out to Abby and Fre who are not photographically represented (altho you can just about see Fre in the corner of one of the booth shots)

Despacio is a love machine, built with love & then generates more love. And love = happiness so Despacio really IS Happiness and hopefully I have captured that feeling with this book.
